At least eight people were killed and
nine others injured when a suicide bomb blast rocked Pakistan' s
northwestern district of Hangu on Monday.
According to local Urdu TV Channel Dunya, the attack took place at about 4:15 p.m. local time when a suicide bomber targeted a vehicle carrying the brother and companions of pro-government tribal elder Malik Habib in Torawari area of Doaba town in Hangu district.
Eyewitnesses said that the suicide bomber rammed his explosive- laden motorcycle into the vehicle near a taxi stand.
The blast destroyed the vehicle, killing six people and injuring at least 11 others on the spot.
Two of the injured who were admitted to the district hospital in Hangu succumbed to their injuries, bringing the death toll to eight.
The loud explosion also incurred damages to nearby shops and cars, local media reported.
Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari condemned the attack and directed the authorities to provide best available treatment to the injured people.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif slammed the bomb blast and expressed sorrow over the loss of lives.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.
